The first project in a series of fiber networks will be the construction of the largest fiber build between Vancouver and Seattle ever competed between the two cities. The need for competitive bandwidth in Vancouver is growing by 50% annually and is crucial to the development of trade between it and its tech sector sister city, Seattle. Further there is no dark fiber between the two cities which is an impediment to bilateral growth in trade and commerce. The cable that is in place is nearing end-of-life and cannot make use of the newer transmission technologies available today.
